Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos CLH, S.A. has brought a new storage facility into service in D (Salamanca). This new facility, whose construction involved an investment of more than 21 million euros, replaces the facility that CLH has held and operated in the city of Salamanca since 1935, and will make it possible for the land occupied by the old plant to be recovered for other townplanning uses.

The new plant is located in an area known as Camino Paraje Villoria, occupies a surface area of 150,000 square metres and has 9 tanks, with a total capacity of 76,210 cubic metres. By opening this new facility, it will be possible to improve the system for oil product storage and distribution in the Autonomous Community of Castile and León.

This plant is also connected to the Valladolid - Salamanca pipeline and is fitted with an automated tank truck loading area with four loading racks. Around 24,000 tank trucks per year will load fuel at this plant, and will then distribute it to filling stations and other consumers in Salamanca and its area of influence.

To achieve this, the new oil product storage and distribution centre has been fitted with sophisticated communications and control equipment that enables all the relevant activities for its operation to be managed, and it will be operational around the clock every day of the year.

This new storage facility has been designed with a view to minimising any impact on the environment. It will, therefore, have at its disposal a number of environmental protection systems which include: a rainwater collection network that is separate from the hydrocarbon-polluted water network; a hydrocarbon-polluted water treatment system and a vapour recovery unit.

This storage centre is also fitted with the latest in safety and security systems and is equipped with various prevention systems, such as: safety distances between the tanks and watertight tank separation enclosures, in addition to internal floating roofs in the tanks and overflow safeguard systems.
