CGG GeoSoftware Unveils Major New Technology with Jason 9.0
CGG GeoSoftware has announced the launch of version 9.0 of its Jason reservoir characterization software. Oil companies will now be able to substantially enhance their understanding of reservoir properties, make better well location decisions and improve the quality and predictive nature of their reservoir models through integrated reservoir characterization, petrophysical interpretation and reservoir modeling workflows.

Several new tools and functionality upgrades have been added to the Jason package, a name highly regarded as the leader in inversion technology for decades. These include new powerful tools for anisotropic inversion of azimuthal seismic surveys, NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) log interpretation, pore pressure analysis and acoustic log interpretation that are invaluable for measuring oil and gas reservoir properties such as total porosity and irreducible water saturation.

Significant advances bring greater clarity to all reservoir types. For example, Jason’s enhanced Facies and Fluids Probabilities (FFP) capability reveals litho-facies distributions within shale reservoirs, such as highest quartz content and greatest brittleness, resulting in well planning with greater confidence.

As a key enhancement to improve asset team collaboration and streamline workflows, Jason 9.0 introduces a new integrated platform. This evolution extends beyond integration across CGG’s different software brands to include major third-party software, enabling Jason users to extract maximum value from their existing workflows, environments and investments.

The new integrated platform enables the sharing of well information, seismic and geostatistically-derived lithology information across the Seismic to Simulation (STS) workflow, including PowerLog (well log petrophysical analysis), Jason Workbench (reservoir characterization) and EarthModel FT (geomodeling). Well-based petrophysical evaluations of a reservoir’s lithology can be compared to and integrated with equivalent seismically or geostatistically-derived lithology interpretations. This will dramatically reduce the time asset teams spend on data and project management tasks. Changes made in one application are instantly shared in others.

Kamal al-Yahya, Senior Vice President, GeoSoftware, CGG, said: “Innovation is always ongoing, and the launch of Jason 9.0 is another important advance for CGG GeoSoftware. We listen to our clients to guide us in building user-friendly and technically sophisticated geoscience technologies that specifically address their needs and expectations. Their feedback is fundamental to developing software that helps improve decision-making and reduce reservoir risk and uncertainty.”

CGG GeoSoftware is a full-service provider of advanced geoscience software including the globally respected Hampson-Russell, Jason, and Insight Earth® brands within CGG’s Geology, Geophysics & Reservoir division.
